ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann women's ice hockey team lost its United Collegaite Hockey Conference (UCHC) matchup against Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon 5-3.
Stevenson would be the first to find the net midway through the first period and would take that 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Mustangs struck quickly and increased their lead to 2-0 40 seconds into the second period. Lian Sydorowicz cut the lead to one at the 5:21 mark off an assist from Taylor Ettore. Kaylee Voss then scored midway through the second to tie the game at two. Gabby Massa drew the assist, and the teams went into the second intermission knotted at two.
Stevenson scored two goals in a minute-and-a-half, one on the power play, in the third period to take a 4-2 lead. Massa put the puck in the back of the net to pull the Knights back within one, 4-3, midway through the period. Mikaylee Henhawk notched the assist. The Mustangs added an insurance goal three minutes later.
The Knights answered with a flurry of shots over the rest of the period but could not get another puck into the back of the net. Neumann also had a late power play and was able to get four shots off with the goalie pulled.
Michelle Winand-Bacon made 28 saves. Stevenson edged Neumann in shots 33-31.
Neumann (0-6, 0-4 UCHC) will have a home-and-home series with Alvernia University next weekend. The Knights will be home on Friday with the puck drop slated for 7:00 PM.
