ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell short at Lebanon Valley College in the Rinso Marquette Tournament Championship Game, 67-63, on Saturday afternoon.
Jalen Vaughns notched a double-double for the Knights with 25 points and 10 rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Ryan Starr joined Vaughns for All-Tournament. TJ Lewis netted 17 points, going 3-3 in three-pointers. Tony James tallied 10 points and eight boards.
The first four minutes of the game featured four lead changes and two tied scores. The Dutchmen hit a three pointer for the fourth lead change, 11-9, and would not trail again in the half.
Lebanon Valley built an 18-11 lead. Neumann pulled back within two, 18-16, after scoring the next five points. The Dutchmen hit a double-digit lead in the final three minutes of the half. The Knights scored the final six points of the half for a 39-32 lead at the break.
The Knights scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 40-39 edge. After going back and forth, Neumann built an eight-point advantage, 59-51, with 6:09 left in regulation. With the Knights leading 61-53, LVC hit three straight three-pointers to take back the lead, 62-61. The Dutchmen hit key free throws down the stretch to come away with the 67-63 win.
Neumann (1-2) will head to Staten Island, N.Y. to compete in an Exhibition game against NCAA DI Wagner College. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
