Staten Island, N.Y.– The Neumann University men's basketball team traveled to DI Wagner College on Monday evening for an exhibition contest. The Knights fell to the Seahawks 82-52.
Kyle Thompson was the lead scorer of the game with 22 points. The graduate student went 11-for-12 from the free throw line.
Jalen Vaughns netted 16 points and eight rebounds.
Vaughns opened the game by scoring the first basket. The junior hit another basket six minute into the game for a 7-6 Wagner lead. The Seahawks went on to score the next eight points. Vaughns himself netted the next six points for a 15-12 Wagner lead. The Seahawks ended the half on a 20-7 run. Thompson scored the seven points for Neumann, and Wagner a 35-19 lead at the half.
The Seahawks scored the first 14 points of the second half and never looked back.
In the second half, the Knights started off slow, however, they picked up the energy as the game continued. Wagner College maintained its lead, but the Knights put up successful shots, most of which were toward the end of the game.
Neumann (1-2) will head to Ewing, N.J. to compete in the TCNJ Tipoff Tournament on Friday. The Knights will face against Penn State Altoona in the first game on Friday beginning at 7:00 PM.
