Big Third Period Lifts Knights Over Monarchs

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann men's ice hockey picked up its first United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) win on Saturday afternoon, defeated King's College (Pa.) 3-2. 

The first 40 minutes of play featured two power play goals by King's.

The Knights cut into the lead at the 8:36 mark of the third with a power play goal by Tyler Kulas. Luke Croucher drew the assist to make the game 2-1.

Neumann then had to kill off a major penalty. With two minutes left in the power play, King's took a penalty and the ice opened up to 4-on-4 hockey. Croucher was able to score a 4-on-4 goal to tie the game at two. Kulas tallied the assist on the goal at the 14:50 mark.

Just 18 seconds later, and after both penalties had expired, Nate Dunning scored the eventual game winner-. PJ Demitrio and Ben Gibbons notched the assists. The Monarchs tried to pulled the goalie to try and tie the game, but the Knights kept the puck deep in the King's zone and the goalie couldn't get off the ice until in the final minute of play. The Monarchs had one shot that was blocked by Croucher in the final seconds.  

Logan Gorbitz made his first collegiate start and made 28 saves for his first win. He made a diving save in the third period that changed the momentum and helped start the comeback. Overall, the Knights outshot the Monarchs 33-30. 

Neumann (2-4, 1-3 UCHC) heads to Chatham University next weekend for a pair of conference games. Friday's match is slated for a 7:00 PM start.
