ASTON, Pa. – In the resumption of a previously suspended game in Pittsburgh, the Neumann University men's ice hockey team was defeated by Chatham University by a 7-2 final score in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Zach Thompson led the Neumann attack with a goal on four shots.
Brady Mistler netted the Knights first goal.
Logan Gorbitz (15) and
Cole DeFazio (23) combined to make 38 saves.
Back on November 18th, it was a slow start for the Knights as they gave up four goals in a ten-minute span during the first period. After the intermission, Neumann came out with fire and on a pretty passing play, Mistler got the Knights on the board just 41 seconds into the second.
Joey Mancuso and
Luke Croucher picked up the assists. Two minutes later, Chatham was awarded a penalty shot but it hit the post. With 13:24 left in the second period, the game was suspended due to issues with the glass and supports.
Fifty-three days later and 292 miles east, the game was resumed. The Cougars got on the board twice in less than two minutes to extend the lead to 6-1. With 2:31 left in the period, the Knights pulled off another give-and-go with Thompson pushing home the goal and
Hunter Litman earning the assist. Chatham finished off the scoring in the last minute of play, extending the lead back to five.
After a lot of scoring over the first two periods, neither team lit the lamp in the third period.
This weekend, Neumann (6-8, 4-6 UCHC) will head to New York State to face No. 2 Utica University on Friday and Saturday nights. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 PM.
