READING, Pa.– The Neumann University women's ice hockey team picked up its first win of the 2022-23 season with a 2-1 victory in overtime at Alvernia University on Saturday evening in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest.
The game remained quiet throughout the first period. In the second, the Knights struck first as Taylor Ettore found the back of the net on the power play. Emma Tauken picked up the assist. Neumann took the 1-0 lead into the intermission.
Midway through the third period, Alvernia tied the game at one. After no one could light the lamp again, the game went into overtime. the 11:47 mark.
Early in the overtime period, Lian Sydorowicz netted the game-winning goal. Neumann Goalie Michelle Winand-Bacon passed the puck to Gia Santorello, who made the play to get the puck to Sydorowicz for the goal just 42 seconds into the extra time.
Ally Joly and Winand-Bacon were both in goal for the Knights, tallying up a total of 35 saves against the Golden Wolves.
Neumann (1-7, 1-5 UCHC) will take Thanksgiving weekend off from games and will next host Nazareth College on December 2 and 3 for a pair of conference games. Friday night is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM
