Women’s Hockey Drops UCHC Opening Game

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team lost the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opener 2-1 to Wilkes University on Friday afternoon.

The first period looked like it was going to be scoreless until the 18:34 mark when Jamiyah Alexander scored her first collegiate goal. The first year stole the puck in the offensive zone and shot the puck past the goal for the 1-0 Neumann lead. The Knights took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Wilkes tied the game midway through the second period and then took the lead with 1:09 left before intermission.

In the third, the Knights killed off a few early penalties. Towards the end of regulation, Neumann put some pressure on the Colonels, but could not get the equalizer and fell 2-1.

Michelle Winand-Bacon played all 60 minutes for the Knights and made 31 saves. Rachel Frederick led Neumann with six shots and Sidney Squires added four.

Neumann (0-3, 0-1 UCHC) and Wilkes face-off again tomorrow beginning at 2:00 PM.
