ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team defeated Buffalo State 3-2 on Friday evening in a non-conference contest.
The first period was quiet, but with 7.2 second left before intermission Buffalo State found the back of the net on a rebound.
The Knights answered quickly in the second period. At the 1:28 mark,
Taylor Ettore scored off assists from
Rachel Frederick and
Jasmine Martinez to tie the game at one. While on the power-play,
Lian Sydorowicz scored off a pass from Ettore to take a 2-1 lead.
Jamiyah Alexander tallied the second assist to put the Knights in the lead.
While on the penalty kill later in the period,
Kaylee Voss stole the puck and scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway for a 3-1 Neumann lead. The Knights took the 3-1 advantage in to the second intermission.
Midway through the third, the Bengals cut the lead to one. Buffalo State pulled its goalie in the attempt to tie the game but could not get the puck on net and Neumann hung on for the 3-2 win.
Michelle Winand-Bacon started the game in net and made 21 saves over the first two periods for the win.
Ally Joly saw time in the third period and made 15 saves to finish out the win for the Knights.
Neumann (2-9) and Buffalo State will face-off again tomorrow beginning at 2:00 PM.
