Women's Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fell in its season opener on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 10-7 result to host Bryn Mawr College in non-conference action.

Brylin Adams and Lindsay Fagan paced the Neumann attack with three goals apiece, while Jayana Murray also scored for the Knights. Catriona Corrigan got the start in goal, stopping seven shots in the loss.

The opening quarter of the season would start slow for the Knights. Bryn Mawr tallied twice in the first 7:11 to take an early 2-0 lead. Neumann steadied late in the first frame, getting a goal from Adams at the 2:49 mark to cut the Owl lead to 2-1 moving to the second.

The visitors used the late first quarter goal to gain momentum in the second stanza.  Fagan scored 45 seconds into the quarter to equalize the matchup, then Adams gave the Knights their first lead at the 9:45 mark, finding the back of the net to make it 3-2. Bryn Mawr fought back with a goal with 2:26 remaining in the quarter to tie things up again, but a late Neumann goal from Fagan gave the Knights a 4-3 lead at halftime.

Fagan continued to roll to start the third, scoring two minutes into the frame to make it 5-3 in favor of the visitors. Unfortunately for Neumann though, that would be the last positive of the period. Bryn Mawr retaliated with five unanswered goals to end the quarter to push past the Knights and take an 8-5 lead into the fourth.

The Owls capped off their scoring streak early in the final frame, burying their sixth straight goal at the 10:49 mark to lead 9-5. The Knights were able to answer back with two of the next three goals of the game from Adams and Murray to make it 10-7, but the team ran out of time for a comeback as the game finished at the same score-line.

Neumann (0-1) will have a week off before returning home to face-off against Mount Saint Vincent College on Saturday. March 5th at 12:00 PM.
