Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Third Straight Win Over Bryn Athyn

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team won its third straight contest on Friday evening, taking home a hard-fought victory over visiting Bryn Athyn by a score of 15-12 in non-conference action.

The Knights were led on the day by a a seven goal outburst from Reilly Fiedler and Brylin Adams also tallied four times. Maggie Blemings notched a five point night on two goals and three assists, while Catriona Corrigan had her best performance of the year in goal with 17 huge saves.

The opening quarter would be all Neumann, as the Knights did their best to run away from the Lions early in the contest with four  straight goals to start play. Adams found the back of the net twice in the first frame, while Blemings and Fiedler also scored as the hosts led 4-0 with a minute left in the frame. The visitors were able to cut the lead to 4-1 though extremely late in the period, scoring with 9 seconds left to keep the game within reach after one.

Bryn Athyn used the late first quarter marker to build momentum into the second stanza. The Lions scored the first goal of the quarter at the 10:15 mark, then followed that up with three of the game's next four tallies to level things up at 5-5 with 2:45 remaining in the half. Alison Mallon was the lone Neumann goal scorer in the period as the game moved to the halftime intermission deadlocked.

The third quarter would go back and forth between the two teams the entire way. The Lions took their first lead of the contest 1:36 into the half before the Knights rattled off three straight goals in just a three minute span to go back on top by a score of 8-6 at the 9:00 minute mark. Adams tied the score at sixes before Fiedler tallied twice to give the Knights a two goal lead. The game continued to see-saw though, as Bryn Athyn answered back with their own two straight goals to equalize the matchup at 8-8 with six minutes to go in the quarter. Fiedler and Adams again retaliated back for the Knights late in the period to again give the hosts a two-goal advantage, but a Bryn Athyn goal with 2:34 remaining in the third would send the game to the final frame with Knights up just one goal at 10-9.

The two teams continued to trade punches at the start of the final frame. A Bekah Brosky goal at 11:24 was sandwiched by two goals from the Lions as the score became 11-11 with 10:54 remaining in the matchup. However, Neumann would take over from there. The Knights scored twice in a row midway through the quarter via goals number five and six from Fiedler as the hosts finally began to pull away. Bryn Athyn briefly cut the lead to one with 5:12 to play, but Blemmings and Fiedler sealed the win for the hosts with two unanswered goals in the final five minutes of play to clinch the 15-12 non-conference victory.

Neumann (3-1) will take the rest of the weekend off before returning to the field next Wednesday, March 16th for another home non-conference game versus Desales University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
