ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fell for the first time in four games on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 14-11 result to visiting DeSales University in non-conference action.
Â
Brylin Adams led the way offensively for the Knights with five goals and an assist for six points, while
Alison Mallon (1 g, 2 a) and
Bekah Brosky (2 g) also recorded multi-point days.
Catriona Corrigan was strong in goal in the loss, stopping 12 shots on the afternoon.
Â
Seeking its fourth straight win, Neumann opened the contest strongly. Despite conceding the first goal of the matchup just 49 seconds into the game to go down 1-0, the Knights rallied for three of the final four goals of the quarter to take a 3-2 lead after one period of play. Adams paced the hosts with a pair of goals in the period, while Fiedler also scored for Neumann.Â
Â
The start of the second stanza would be the polar opposite of the first, as the Knights scored first through Maggie Blemmings to go up 4-2 at the 1:58 mark to take their biggest lead of the game. The remainder of the period would belong to the Bulldogs though, as the visitors scored five unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.
Â
Adams tried to get the Knights back into the matchup early in the third quarter with a goal 52 seconds after returning from intermission, but again DeSales responded with a run of its own. The Bulldogs notched four of the next five goals midway through the frame to take a commanding 11-6 lead into the fourth. Brosky was the other goal scorer in the period for the Knights.
Â
Neumann would not go away however, doing everything in its power to climb back into the contest in the final frame. After trading goals to open the quarter and bring the score to 12-7 with 11:48 left in the game, the Knights retaliated with their own 4-0 run midway through the fourth to close the Bulldog lead to 12-11 with 4:53 left to play. Adams and Mallon each registered a goal and an assist during the run, while Brosky and
Lindsey Fagan also scored for Neumann. That was as close as the Knights would get though, as DeSales fired back with a pair of late goals in the final four minutes to ice the game at 14-11.
Â
Neumann will look to bounce back Saturday, March 19th when the team travels to Eastern University for another non-conference contest. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.Â
