SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team stumbled at Swarthmore College on Wednesday evening, falling by a score of 18-2 in a non-conference contest.
Lindsey Fagan passed the 30-goal mark on the season, scoring both goals on the day for the Knights.
Catriona Corrigan and
Ava Irwin combined for nine saves in goal in the loss.
Things started great for Neumann in the local rivalry matchup, as Fagan scored 1:27 into the first frame to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Swarthmore would dominate the rest of the quarter though, finding the back of the net five unanswered times to lead 5-1 after one period of play.
The deficit would only get worse for the visitors in the second, as two quick goals to start the stanza made it 7-1 with 11:46 left in the opening half. Fagan answered back just over a minute later to cut the lead to 7-2, but that would be the last highlight of the half for Neumann. The Garnet piled on five straight tallies to end the half to take a 12-2 lead at the halftime intermission.
Swarthmore continued to roll in the second half, shutting out the Knights over the final 30 minutes to cruise to the win. The hosts added three goals to their total in both the third and fourth quarters to clinch the comfortable 18-2 victory.
Neumann (5-4) will look to avenge the loss when it returns home for another non-conference game this Saturday, April 2nd against Cedar Crest College. Game-time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
