Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Neumann University softball team split a pair of Atlantic East Conference games at Marymount University on Sunday afternoon. The Saints took the first game 10-2 in six innings. The Knights rallied back for an 8-2 win in game two.
Ashlynne Scardino started the game and went 3.0 innings in the circle. She allowed eight runs, six earned, on eight hits.
Courtney McKenna went 2.1 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits.
Ashley Leicht went 3-for-3 from the plate and scored a run.
Taylor Portzline was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Saints jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings. The Knights plated their two runs in the fourth. Leicht led off with a double and scored on a single by Portzline. Portzline came around to score on a double by Scardino.
Marymount scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 10-2 final.
In game two, Portzline added two more hits and knocked in three runs.
Bri Reim also had two hits, knocked in two runs, and scored two runs.
Aubrie Breisblatt also scored a pair of runs.
The Knights struck early in game two.
Christina Ludovico reached on an error to start the game and scored on an RBI groundout by Portzline. Neumann loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second.
Emily Reid singled in a run, followed by an RBI groundout by Ludovico for a 3-0 lead. Reim doubled in two runs and Portzline hit an RBI single for a 6-0 lead after 1.5 innings.
Portzline singled in another run in the fourth inning.
Emily DuPont doubled in Neumann's final run in the fifth inning for the 8-2 final.
Olivia Ammon pitched the complete game for the win. The freshman allowed two runs on nine hits over 7.0 innings and struck out five.
Neumann (8-19, 2-4 Atlantic East) stays in conference action and will head to Centenary on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch of the doubleheader is 3:00 PM.
