GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped a high scoring game at Gwynedd Mercy University on Monday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action. The Knights then fell 6-2 in a rain shortened game two.
Game one was a high-scoring, back and forth affair where the Griffins held on for the 12-10 win.
Zach Ray went 3-for-3 and scored four runs.
Marty Cortellessa knocked in three runs.
Ryan Lopez scored three runs.
Zach Mullins started the game on the mound and went 4.0 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits and striking out three.
Brian Van Etten pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
Brennan Hatala took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits in the sixth inning.
After Gwynedd Mercy scored a run in the first, Neumann plated two unearned runs in the top of the second, both on bases-loaded walks, to take a 2-1 edge.
Lopez scored a run in the third on a balk. Cortellessa knocked in Ray for a 4-1 Knights advantage. In the bottom of the third, the Griffins scored six runs for a 7-4 lead. Neumann got one of the runs back in the fourth as

Down 8-5,
Andrew Curran doubled in Ray to keep within striking distance, 8-6. In the top of the sixth, Vega walked and scored on a double by Lopez.
Alec Silverman doubled in Lopez to tie the game at eight. With two runners on base, Cortellessa singled in two runs for a 10-8 Knights lead.
Gwynedd Mercy answered right back with four runs in the home half of the sixth to take back the lead, 12-10. Neumann had the tying run on second base in the top of the seventh but could not get the key hit and fell 12-10.
In game two, Lopez hit a homerun in the first inning for an early 2-0 lead. Gwynedd Mercy answered with two runs in the bottom of the first for a 2-2 game. The Griffins scored four runs in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. The rain came and the game was called after five innings.
Will Hart pitched the 5.0 innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out three.
Neumann (8-17, 4-8 Atlantic East) will host Rosemont on Thursday for a non-conference contest beginning at 3:00 PM.
