RADNOR, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team couldn't keep up with Atlantic East Conference leading Cabrini University on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the host Cavaliers by a score of 19-2.
Lindsey Fagan and
Jayana Murray were the goal scorers on the day for the Knights, while
Catriona Corrigan and
Ava Irwin teamed up in goal to combine for 14 saves in the loss.
Cabrini wasted no time asserting its dominance in the first frame, unleashing an unrelenting attack on the Knights for the entire quarter. The Cavaliers found the back of the net ten times in period to jump out to a commanding 10-0 lead after one.
The hosts would continue to add to their advantage in the second. A Fagan goal at 12:44 canceled out an 11th Cavalier tally two minutes prior to make it 11-1 as Neumann got on the scoreboard, but that would be the only bright spot for the visitors in the first half. Cabrini piled on three more markers later in the quarter to take a 14-1 lead to halftime.
Murray broke through with Neumann's second goal of the contest at 11:51 of the third quarter, but again the Knights would go silent on offense the rest of the way. Cabrini answered back with three unanswered goals to finish the third quarter, then tacked on two more tallies in the final frame to take home the comfortable 19-2 conference win.
Neumann (6-7, 0-3 Atlantic East) will look to find its way into the conference win column this Saturday, April 23rd when the team plays host to Marywood University on its senior day. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
