IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team traveled to Immaculata University on Friday and came out victorious with a 10-8 win in an Atlantic East Conference contest.
Nate Griffin picked up the win on the mound going 6.0. He allowed three runs on eight hits.
Billy Hunt,
Brian Van Etten and
Brennan Hatala all saw time from the pen en route to the win.
Shawn Vega went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
The Knights got the scoring started in the first with a Vega solo homerun. The Mighty Macs answered right back with a homerun of their own and then added one more in the inning for a 2-1 lead.
Neumann knotted the game at two in the third when singled by
Zach Ray scored
Marcus White.
Down 3-2 in the fourth,
Alec Silverman doubled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Anthony Basciano. White followed with a walk and scored on a Ray triple. Vega doubled in Ray and then scored on an error later in the inning for a 6-3 Neumann lead.
In the top of the sixth, Neumann plated four more runs.
Marty Cortellessa singled in
Ryan Lopez.
Nick Glebocki hit a two-run triple for a 10-3 lead.
The Mighty Macs tried to chip their way back into the game and pulled to within two, 10-8 in the bottom of the ninth. With two runners on base, Hatala got the final out with a called strike three and picked up the save.
Neumann (11-17, 5-8 Atlantic East) and Immaculata will continue the three-games series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 PM. Prior to first pitch, the Knights will honor their seniors.
