Women's Lacrosse Set to Host Gwynedd Mercy in Atlantic East First Round

4/29/2022 9:32:00 AM

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team has qualified for the 2022 Atlantic East Conference tournament and will play host to Gwynedd Mercy University this Saturday, April 30th at 1:00 PM.

Neumann finished the season with an overall record of 8-7 and a conference record of 2-3 to earn the third seed in the playoffs. The Knights will take on the sixth-seeded Griffins, who ended the season with  an 8-9 overall record and a 1-4 mark in conference play.

The dynamic duo of Lindsey Fagan and Brylin Adams has led the Neumann attack all season long. Adams leads the team with 62 points on 44 goals and 18 assists. The senior attacker passed the 100 goal plateau in the team's last game, a 22-9 victory over Immaculata. Fagan is tops on the team with 55 goals, while also adding four assists for 59 points on the year. Maggie Blemings and Reilly Fiedler have also been key cogs in the Neumann attack. Blemings leads the team with 19 assists, while Fiedler's 29 goals and 34 points rank her third on the team in each category.

The midfield has been led by the trio of Bekah Brosky (16 g, 4 a), Alison Mallon (7 g, 7 a) and Jayana Murray (12 g). These three players have been influential on both ends of the field, not only scoring goals but also ranking amongst the team leaders in ground balls and draw controls. Murray (35 gb) and Brosky (33 gb) rank second snd third in ground balls, while Mallon ranks second in draw controls (48). Brosky also leads the team with 23 caused turnovers, while Murray has picked up 18 on the season.

Neumann has been led on the defensive end of the field by senior goaltender Catriona Corrigan. The net-minder has started all 15 games, saving 129 shots for a .419 save percentage and a 14.18 goals against average. Corrigan has been aided on the back-line by defenders Lian Sydorowicz, Laura Plisinski, Kyra Powers, Kelly Eisenhart and Nicki Floyd.

The Knights will be hoping for a different result than the last time they faced Gwynedd Mercy. The Griffins picked up a 16-13 win in Aston on April 13th for their lone Conference win of the season. Twelve goals combined between Adams and Fagan on the day were not enough for the Knights in the loss. Neumann is a different team this time around though, with a fully healthy lineup riding high after two straight wins.

Should Neumann knock off the Griffins in the first round, the Knights would head to Marymount University to take on the second-seeded Saints in a semifinal contest on Wednesday, May 4th. The Atlantic East Championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 7th.
