Knights Drop a Pair at Day Two in Texas

HOUSTON, Texas – The Neumann University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at day two of the St. Thomas Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
 
In the first match of the day, the Knight fell to East Texas Baptist in three set. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13. Three Knights tallied six kills in the match: Maria Brown, Lauren Garvey and Regan Hickey. Dani Smith handed out 19 assists and notched 16 digs. Garvey also added 11 digs.
 
The first set went back and forth. A service ace by Hickey made it a 21-20 East Texas score. The teams traded scores until the Tigers were able to notch two straight points for the 25-22 first set win.
 
In the finale of the weekend, Neumann fell to host St. Thomas 3-0. Set scores were 25-22, 25-21 and 25-16. Hickey led the Knights with eight kills. Smith dished out 13 assists. Tori Burgess tallied 13 digs.
 
Down by one, 20-19, in set one, the Celts scored three straight points for a 23-19 edge. The Knights then scored three of the next four to pull within two, 24-22. St. Thomas sealed the first set win with a kill.
 
In set two, Neumann trailed 14-8 and climbed back to within one, 17-16. The Celts answered with five straight points to take a 22-16 advantage. The Knights then netted four of the next five to keep the set going. St. Thomas was then able to get the final two points to take set two.
 
St. Thomas opened the third set with eight straight points and cruised to the match win.
 
Neumann (0-4) returns east and will head to Ursinus on Tuesday evening. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
