ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team held off Centenary University 80-73 in Atlantic East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
TJ Lewis led the Knights with 20 points, including going 10-for-12 from the line.
Kyson Rawls netted 19 and
Tony James added 16.
Ryan Starr handed out 15 assists, grabbed eight boards and scored seven points.
After trading baskets to start the game, Neumann took an 8-8 game and scored the next 11 points for a 19-8 advantage. A free throw by
Mike Tabasso put the Knights up 26-13 with 7:07 on the clock. Centenary answered by scoring the next 13 points over three minutes to pull even at 26. Two free throws by
Kyle Thompson put Neumann back in the lead. The Knights took a 33-30 edge into the locker room.
The second half featured nine tied scores and eight lead changes. With the teams tied for the final time at 60 with 5:41 left in regulation. James caused a turnover by the Cyclones and connected on a layup with 4:14 on the clock for a 62-60 score. Starr followed with another steal and dished the ball to Rawls for a four-point lead. In the final 2:25, Centenary fouled Neumann to try and get back into the game, but the Knights went 13-for-14 from the free throw line to seal the 80-73 win.
Neumann (14-4, 4-1 Atlantic East) heads to Cabrini on Wednesday. The Atlantic East Conference game begins at 8:00 PM.
