ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Ice Hockey team lost a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game against Arcadia by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.
After giving up early period goals in their last game, Neumann was determined to have a strong start to today's action. After a scoreless 6:48, that determination paid off with an unassisted power play goal by
Emma Tauken, her first of the season. With 3:51 left in the period, the advantage would strike again as
Georgia Wunder rifled in her first of the year after a cross-point pass from Tauken, giving the Knights a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
Although Neumann was awarded a five-minute power play seven minutes into the period, it would be Arcadia that would strike to cut the lead in half. Four minutes later, Arcadia picked up a penalty shot opportunity, but it was forced wide of the goal and the Knights lead stayed at 2-1 through 40 minutes of play.
The third period started off with both teams picking up quality chances but neither team could strike until the midway point when Arcadia tied the game at two. Arcadia would then pick up two more quick goals, 42 seconds apart, including a power play goal, to take the game, and sweep this weekend's home-and-home series.
Ally Joly started in goal for Neumann making 34 stops in 55 minutes of work, including the 2,000th save of her collegiate career.
Annie Riek came into game with five minutes remaining and made two saves in her first collegiate appearance. Tauken, in addition to her one goal and one assist performance, showed off her 200-foot game, blocking four shots, leading all Knights defenders.
Neumann (5-13, 4-10 UCHC) will return to action on Friday in a home conference game against the Pioneers from Utica University. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
