ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's hockey team opened the 2023-24 season with a 4-1 loss to SUNY Geneseo on Friday evening.
 
Geneseo scored a pair of goals in each of the first two periods for a 4-0 lead after two periods.
 
Early in the third period, the Knights took advantage of a 4-on-3 power play and Yancy Whitaker put the puck in the back of the net. Brady Mistler and Joe DiGiulio drew the assists.
 
Towards the end of regulation, Neumann went on the power play and put seven shots towards the net, six going on goal, for a late flurry, but could not get the puck into the back of the net.
 
Cole DeFazio made 23 saves in net for the Knights. The game also marked the first game behind the bench for new Head Coach Michael Hedden.
 
Neumann (0-1) will open conference action next weekend with a home-and-home with Alvernia. The Knights will head to the Golden Wolves on Friday with the puck dropping at 3:30 PM.
