Women’s Hockey Takes Down Bengals in Overtime

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team, in the second game of a home-and-home, defeated the Buffalo State University Bengals in overtime by a final score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first period, and a nearly scoreless second, Cecelia Mick got the Knights on the board with a minute left in the middle frame for her first goal of the season. Marissa Rumsey earned the assist. 9:37 into the third, Lian Sydorowicz doubled the Neumann lead for her first of the year as Charlotte Labre and Georgia Wunder grabbed the assists for a 2-0 lead.

Buffalo State, on the strength of a 42-20 advantage in shots on goal, would control much of the game. They finally broke through with 5:20 left in the period. The Neumann lead would survive until the last minute when, with their goalie pulled, tied the game with 42 seconds left in regulation. Just over a minute in to overtime, Jamiyah Alexander would send the Knights home happy with an unassisted goal to seal the game.

Gia Santorello led the Neumann attack with four shots while Sydorowicz and Alexander had three each. Ella Sciborski, in her first collegiate start, made 40 saves for the win.

Neumann will be back in action on Friday night as they host Arcadia University in the 2023-2024 home opener. The game will get started at 7:00 PM and will be played at the IceWorks Skating Complex.
