READING, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team played to a 3-3 tie at Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest. The Knights picked up another point in the standings, winning the shootout 2-0.
The game went back and forth from the beginning.
Alyssa Papasodero scored her first collegiate goal 3:19 into the game. The Golden Wolves tied the game with under five minutes remaining in the first and the teams went into the first intermission knotted at one.
After no goals in the second period,
Lian Sydorowicz put Neumann back on top, 2-1, with a power play goal 2:39 into the third.
Jasmine Martinez and
Jamiyah Alexander drew the assists. Alvernia scored two power play goals in a two-and-a-half-minute span midway through the period to jump out to a 3-2 lead.
As time was starting to wind down,
Georgia Wunder jumped into the offense and scored her first goal of the season to tie the game at three with 1:12 left in regulation.
The teams played to a scoreless overtime to officially end the game in a time. In the shootout,
Gia Santorello and Sydorowicz scored in the shootout for the Knights to give Neumann an extra point in the conference standings.
Michelle Winand-Bacon was busy in net, making 47 saves in the game and did not allow a goal in two changes in the shootout. Alexander led the Knights with six shots on goal.
Neumann (4-4-1, 0-3-1 UCHC) will take a break for Thanksgiving and then travel to Utica University for a pair of UCHC games on December 1 and 2.
