ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team defeated Albertus Magnus College by a final score of 8-3 in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.
The Knights started slowly out of the gate but their play improved as the first period moved along. They finally broke through when a center ice shot from
Gia Santorello eluded the goalie for a 1-0 lead at the 19:27 mark. 16 seconds later,
Meg Landman doubled the advantage, with helpers from
Emma Tauken and
Georgia Wunder, giving Neumann a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Neumann used three power play goals in the middle period on their way to a 7-0 lead after two.
Jamiyah Alexander got the ball rolling for the Knights, ripping a wrist shot for a three-goal lead.
Georgia Wunder had the lone assist on the goal at 9:39.
Lian Sydorowicz followed at the 12:51 mark with Wunder and
Jasmine Martinez assisting. 37 seconds later,
Kyra Filighera scored to move the lead to five. The Knights struck again with 3:56 left in the period, and again 12 seconds later. Landman nabbed her second of the game with assists from
Rachel Frederick and
Gabby Massa, then Santorello earned her second goal of the game to close out the period.
The Falcons fought back with two straight goals in the third before Landman completed the hat-trick game with just under five minutes left in regulation.
Kaila Booth had the only assist. Albertus Magnus closed out the scoring with a goal in the last 41 seconds.
Tauken, Santorello and Alexander each had five shots to lead the Knights' attack.
Ella Sciborski withstood early pressure and finished the game with 25 saves for the win.
Neumann (2-3, 0-2 UCHC) will be back in action on Friday night when they host Hilbert College in another non-conference tilt. The opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
