HERSHEY, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team took down Lebanon Valley College on Saturday night by a final score of 4-3. With the win, the Knights completed a home-and-home United Collegiate Hockey Conference sweep after last night's home win.
The game started slowly with few offensive chances but with 4:27 left in the first period, Lebanon Valley scored on the power play to strike first. Just over two minutes later,
Brady Mistler knocked home a rebound of a
Chase Cochran shot for his fourth goal of the season.
Wyatt Wong got the secondary assist as the Knights knotted the game at one, closing the first period.
100 seconds into the second,
Ben Gibbons moved in on a shorthanded breakaway and deposited his second goal of the year for a 2-1 Neumann lead, as
Hunter Litman got the lone assist. 2:17 later,
Yancy Whitaker doubled the Knights advantage with his seventh of the season with a tip in of a
Tony Andrews shot.
Max Mila also got an assist on the play. They would add on with a power play goal with 10:41 left in the second, as Andrews scored his third goal of the weekend, and fourth of the year.
PJ Demitrio and
Luke Croucher earned the assists. The Flying Dutchmen ended the Neumann scoring run with three minutes left in the second, on a power play goal.
The third period was much like the start of the first with both defenses starring. With 4:23 left in regulation, Lebanon Valley got within one. That is as close as the Dutchmen would get as the Knights hung on the secure the weekend sweep.
Andrews had the Knights' lone multi-point game tallying a goal and an assist. Mistler fired five shots on goal while Gibbons had three.
Cole DeFazio picked up the win between the pipes with a strong 26 save effort.
Neumann(5-5, 5-4 UCHC) will be back in action next Saturday night for a road non-conference game against SUNY Cortland. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
