ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Ice Hockey team dropped its first match up against Chatham University 5-0 on Friday night in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Chatham was able to get on the board twice in the first period. The first goal came three minutes into the game while the Cougars scored a power play goal midway.
In the second period Neumann had two power play opportunities but could not convert any goals on their advantage. Chatham made the game 3-0 with 1:06 left before the second intermission.
The Knights had some changes in the third period to cut into the Cougars lead.
Jasmine Martinez and
Gabby Massa each had a good look at the net but couldn't get the puck any across the line. Chatham added two power play goals late in the game.
Gia Santorello led the Knights with three blocked shots. Martinez led Neumann with four shots throughout the contest.
Michelle Winand-Bacon made 36 saves in this game.
Neumann (4-7-1, 0-6-1 UCHC) will face Chatham tomorrow in the second game of the weekend series beginning at 2:00 P.M.
