ASTON, Pa. – On Saturday evening, the Neumann University Men's Ice Hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss against their United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) rivals, the Stevenson University Mustangs.
Thanks to a protocol violation, the Knights started the game on the power play and didn't waste that opportunity. With just 11 seconds off the clock,
Nate Dunning picked up an unassisted goal, his fourth goal of the season, giving his squad a 1-0 lead. Stevenson responded just over two minutes later, then took the lead at the 8:55 mark. Neumann equalized with 4:11 left in the frame on another power play goal, this time by
Yancy Whitaker. Dunning and
Tyler Kulas earned the assists on Whitaker's fifth goal of the year, evening the game at two.
After a scoreless second period, the Mustangs took the lead at the 4:44 mark. They added two more goals at 7:38 and 17:10 to close out the scoring. All of the goals in tonight's game were either scored on the power play or shorthanded.
In addition to his one goal and one assist performance, Dunning also fired seven shots on goal.
Cameron Hatziioannou contributed five shots and
Brady Mistler picked up four.
Cole DeFazio made 19 saves between the pipes.
Neumann (6-15-0, 4-12-0 UCHC) will return to action on Friday when they head to Rochester, NY, to take on Nazareth College. The game is scheduled for a 4pm start.
