ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season, defeating Bryn Athyn College 3-0 on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-13, 25-18, 25-23.
Veryl Burns led the Knights with 14 kills with a .500 hitting percentage and five blocks, four being solos.
TJ McConnell added 10 kills.
Christian Johnson handed out 28 assists.
Brandon Baskerville tallied 17 digs.
After the Lions scored the first point of the match, the Knights scored nine of the next 10 to take a 9-2 lead. Neumann later had a 10-2 run for a 21-6 advantage. The Knights took the first set 25-13 on a Lion's attack error.
The teams went back and forth in the second set. Tied at 10, Neumann scored the next three points to take the lead. One of Burn's kills gave the Knights the 25-18 set two win.
The Lions took a 4-2 deficit in the third set and scored six straight points. The Knights came back to within one, 8-7, before Bryn Athyn scored another six points for a 14-7 advantage. Trailing 17-12, Neumann rallied for six consecutive points to take an 18-17 lead.
The teams continued to go back and forth. The Lions took a 23-22 advantage before the Knights had a kill by McConnell to tie the match at 23. A Bryn Athyn attack error got Neumann to set point. McConnell tallied a service ace for the 25-23 set three win and the 3-0 match win.
Neumann (1-6) heads to Cairn on Thursday evening for a match beginning at 7:00 PM.
