PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Neumann University baseball team took a pair of games at Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won by scores of 4-3 and 6-4.
In game one,
Jonathan Baker picked up his first win as a Knight, pitching a complete game. He went 7.0 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on 10 hits while striking out four.
The Valiants struck first with a run in the third inning. The Knights answered with four runs in the top of the fourth.
Ryan Lopez was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and came around to score on an RBI ground out by
Andrew Curran.
Isaiah Payton and
Cristian Diaz hit back-to-back doubles as Neumann took a 2-1 lead. Diaz scored on a wild pitch.
Nick Glebocki plated the fourth run as he scored on a single by
Brandon Colon.
Manhattanville scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth as it attempted a walk-off win. The Valiants left the game-tying runner at second and Neumann hung on for the 4-3 game one win.
In the second game, Manhattanville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Neumann tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Glebocki led off with a double and came around to score on an RBI by
Tyler Kilmer, Colon scored on a single by
Shawn Vega.
The Valiants took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the eighth, Vega hit a solo homerun to knot the game at three. Manhattanville again took the lead right back with a single run in the bottom of the eighth.
Curran led off the top of the ninth and was hit by the pitch.
Thomas Carroll came into pinch run and scored on a double by Payton to tie the game at four. With one out, Glebocki doubled to score Payton, then came around to score on a double by Colon for a 6-4 lead.
Jack Valentine struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth for his first win as a Knight. The junior went 2.0 innings in relief for the win.
Gabriel Colon started the game and went the first four innings.
Vic Mejia went three innings on the mound.
Neumann (6-7) heads to Delaware Valley on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
