Knights Suffer Defeat at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team lost an 18-3 decision to the Delaware Valley University Aggies in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Delaware Valley offense got rolling right away with four runs in the first. An RBI single, a run-scoring error, and RBI grounder, and another RBI single were the catalysts as they home team took a 4-0 lead. The Aggies scored single runs in the second and third, using an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, pulling ahead by six.

Neumann's fourth inning showed promise as Shawn Vega led off by being hit by a pitch, then a steal of second. Ryan Lopez singled to move Vega to third, then as Lopez was thrown out stealing second, Vega scored the Knights' first run. Later in the frame, Andrew Curran was beaned, Cristian Diaz singled, and Josh Finger walked to load the bases. Nick Glebocki drove in two runs on a single to left, and the Neumann deficit was cut in half.

Delaware Valley came back with a fury as they put together five-run innings in both the fourth and fifth to pull away for a 16-3 lead. The Aggies added two more runs in the sixth and coasted from there to pull out the win.

Isaiah Payton had the lone multi-hit performance, going 2 for 3 with a walk. AJ Nardo pinch hit in the ninth and hit a double. Starting pitcher, Nate Griffin, was handed the loss to drop to 1-2 on the year.

Neumann (6-8) will return to action tomorrow afternoon for a home non-conference game against Rowan University. First pitch from Bruder Field is scheduled for 3:30pm.
