Baseball Falls to Salisbury

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team challenged last year's NCAA Division 3 runners-up, the Salisbury University Sea Gulls, but ultimately suffered an 18-0 loss, ending a four game winning streak.

After a scoreless first, Salisbury got the afternoon's offense going with an RBI double, a run-scoring passed ball, and two straight run-scoring singles for a 5-0 lead. They would double their lead in the third while sending nine men to the plate for the second consecutive frame. They used a two-run single, and two errors allowed three runs for a double-digit advantage.

In the fifth, the Sea Gulls' bats kept rolling as they hit two doubles in a row to score three run, and an RBI triple to pull ahead further. The sixth featured two singles resulting in three more runs, and a solo home run in the seventh, closed out the onslaught.

Chris Balshuweit reached base twice, going 1 for 2 with a walk. Isaiah Payton also got on base with two walks. Josh Finger and Tyler Kilmer had the other two hits for the Knights, with Kilmer's being a double. JerVal Shuler was dealt the loss in three innings of work to drop his record to 0-2.

Neumann (12-16, 3-6 Atlantic East) will return to action on Friday as they visit the Marymount University Saints. The Atlantic East Conference match-up gets started at 3:00 PM.
