ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team battled the Marymount University Saints in an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won game one, 5-4 in 12 innings while Marymount win the night cap by the same score.

The first two innings went scoreless in game one but then the team traded two run innings in the third. Marymount got theirs via a two-run infield single. Andrew Curran led off the bottom of the inning with an infield hit and moved to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Nick Glebocki reached on an error and moved Curran third after a wild pitch advanced Glebocki to second. Brandon Colon grounded out to drive in Curran and Chris Balshuweit hit an RBI single to tie the game.

Shawn Vega followed with an RBI single to plate Balshuweit, giving the Knights a 4-2 lead. The Saints regrouped to tie the game in the sixth on an RBI double and an RBI grounder.

Both teams would have multiple chances to take the game but it took all the way until the 12th inning before someone would claim the win. Vega led off by reaching on an error. Thomas Elgrim moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Vega moved to third on a wild pitch, Ryan Lopez hit a grounder through the second baseman, scoring Vega, and sending the Knights to a game one victory.

Vega finished 4 for 6 with three stolen bases, an RBI, and a run scored. Curran was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Balshuweit was 2 for 6 with an RBI and a run scored. Morgan D'Amico had a strong start for the no-decision, going four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. Nick Colon held things together with a long relief appearance. He went 6.1 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, while striking out five. Balshuweit went the last 1.2 innings for the win to improve to 3-0.

In the second inning of game two, Marymount struck first, scoring on a passed ball and a two-run single for a 3-0 lead. It took until the fifth until Neumann started to claw back. Jonathan Baker led off with an infield hit. Glebocki followed with an RBI double and moved to third on a groundout. Balshuweit pulled with Knights within one with a grounder that plated Glebocki for 3-2 game.

With an out in the sixth, Josh Finger single through the right side of the infield. After a pop-up, Ryan Lopez hit a double to left-center, his 100th hit as a Neumann Knight, moving Finger to third. Finger would then come in to score on an error, equalizing the game at three apiece.

In the top of the seventh, Marymount retook the lead on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Balshuweit hit an infield single and moved to second when Vega walked. Curran walked to load the bases but although Finger would drive in a run on a fielder's choice, the Knights fell a run short of the comeback.
