MALVERN, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team dropped both ends of an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader against the Immaculata University Mighty Mac on Thursday. The final scores were 8-0 and 12-2.
In the second inning of game one, Immaculata got on the board with a solo home run. The Mighty Macs added three more runs in the third with an RBI sacrifice fly, and a two-run single, giving them a 4-0 advantage. In the fourth, it was an RBI single that led to a five-run deficit for the Knights. Immaculata added two runs in the fifth on a fielder's choice and an RBI triple. In the sixth, it was an RBI double that plated the final run of the game.
Ryan Lopez and
Nick Glebocki had the lone hits for the Knights.
Morgan D'Amico got the start and suffered the loss, dropping his record to 0-1 on the season.
Gabriel Colon and
Gatlin Hovenstine did not allow an earned run in their single innings of work.
In game two, Immaculata struck right away with a solo home run and an RBI triple in the first inning. They added two more in the second using an RBI fielder's choice and an RBI single, giving them a 4-0 lead. The game went scoreless until the sixth when the Mighty Macs broke it open with six runs. The three RBI singles and RBI double pushed them to a 10-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh,
Ryan Lopez led off by being hit by a pitch. He then moved to third when
Isaiah Payton doubled into left field.
Andrew Curran drove them both home with a single up the middle, pulling the Knights within eight. Immaculata took back the 10 run lead with a two-run double in the eighth.
Glebocki finished the second game 2 for 2 with a triple. Payton and
Cristian Diaz each hit a double and Lopez reached twice with a hit and a hit-by-pitch.
Jonathan Baker was handed the loss to drop to 1-4 while
Chris Balshuweit pitched perfect inning in relief, with two strikeouts.
Neumann (8-14, 0-4 Atlantic East) will return to action on Tuesday to close out this three-game conference series against Immaculata. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
