Softball Competes in Pod A for Postseason

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team heads to Radnor, Pa. for Pod A action of the 2023 Atlantic East Conference postseason on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Knights are the No. 4 seed in the postseason, finishing the regular season 12-23 overall and 5-7 in conference.
 
Pod A will be played at Cabrini, who is the No. 1 seed. No. 6 seeded Gwynedd Mercy will be the third team. Pod B will be played at No. 2 Marymount. No. 3 Marywood and No. 5 Centenary will round out Pod B.
 
The Knights opened conference action against the Griffins and Cavaliers this season back in March. Neumann and Gwynedd Mercy split while Cabrini won both games.
 
Against the Griffins on the road, the Knights won the first game 3-2. Ashlynne Scardino went 7.0 innings in the circle and allowed two unearned runs. The junior also knocked in two runs with a double. Gwynedd Mercy took the back-and-forth game two, 8-6.
 
Against the Cavaliers at home, Cabrini won two close games 4-1 and 2-1.
 
For the season, Kristen Pagliaro leads the team batting .362 with a team-leading 34 hits, nine doubles, 16 runs scored and 17 RBI. The junior hit one homerun, which was an inside the park homer to walk-off Penn State Abington.
 
Emily Ammon, Cioni Simmons, Elizabeth Shire and Taylor Portzline all have 20 or more hits. Shire has knocked in 14 runs and scored 13. Simmons is 19-for-21 in stolen bases.
 
In the circle, Olivia Ammon is 6-5 in 15 appearances, seven complete games, with a 3.31 ERA. In 67.2 innings, she has struck out 31. Scardino has four wins a team-high eight complete games. In 77.1 innings, she has struck out 25 and has a 2.72 ERA.
 
The winners from the double elimination pod play will meet next weekend at the highest remaining seed for the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Championship.
