LANCASTER, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team were dealt a 4-0 non-conference loss at the hands of Houghton University in a neutral-site game on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Highlanders struck in the 22
nd minute for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, they doubled their advantage. With under two minutes left in the first half, Houghton was awarded a penalty stroke and didn't miss as they took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Knights defense stiffened in the third quarter but could not muster much offense. In the fourth quarter, with 7:37 left, Houghton struck again to close out the scoring.
Emma Schneider got the start in goal, playing the first half, and made four saves.
Caley Gee played in the second half, making nine stops.
Cadence Conti led the offense with two shots, one on goal.
Mia Black and
Grace Ginty also had a shot on goal each.
Neumann(1-1) will be back in action on Thursday for their home opener against Drew University. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
