ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team traveled to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a tri-match and came home with a pair of wins.
The Knights defeated the host Seahawks 3-0 before winning 3-1 over Regent University.
Lauren Garvey led the Knights over St. Mary's with 18 kills and a .515 hitting percentage.
Dani Smith handed out 30 assists.
Regan Hickey and
Claudia Bournazel each finished with 15 digs.
The first set went back and forth. With the Seahawks leading 21-20, the Knights scored three straight points on two kills by Hickey. After a St. Mary's kill, attacks by
Naye Cruz and Hickey sealed the 25-22 set one win.
The Knights took control in set two and a kill by Hickey gave Neumann a 25-17 second set win and 2-0 match lead. The Knights jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the third set and took the set 25-17 for a 3-0 match win.
Against the Royals, Garvey tallied 13 kills. Smith dished out 36 assists, surpassing the 2,000 career assist mark. Bournazel notched 26 digs Hickey tallied 17, Garvey 14 and Smith finished with 10 digs.
Neumann took a10-4 lead early in the match. Regent came back and tied the set at 13. The teams battled back and forth. A kill by
Anna Mansel gave the Knights the 25-22 set one win. Down 8-7 in set two, Neumann scored 15 straight points for a 22-8 lead. A kill by
Bri Gautier gave the Knights a 25-12 second set win and a 2-0 match lead.
The Knights jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the third set. They Royals battled back, and the teams went back and forth before being tied at 20. A kill by
Liv Bowers out Neumann up 21-20 when Regent scored five of the next six points to win 25-22 and force a fourth set.
Again, the team went back and forth. A service ace by
Tori Burgess gave the Knights match point, 25-21. The Royals scored the next two points when a kill by Garvey sealed the 25-23 fourth set win and 3-1 match win.
Neumann (11-7) returns home on Wednesday to host Wilkes University. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
