ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team battled back against Atlantic East Conference rival, Marywood University, picking up the win, 73-69, on Wednesday night.
Although Neumann scored the first bucket of the game, Marywood went on a seven point run to pull ahead. The Knights went on their own run of six, closed by an
Amari Little jumper, evening the game at 10 with 12 minutes left in the first. The Pacers followed with a 15-2 stretch over the next four minutes, regaining the lead and extending it to 13. With 90 seconds remaining in the half, the Pacers kept the double-digit lead but Neumann scored the last six points, including a buzzer-beating
Jarell Keel shot, and the deficit was 35-27.
The Knights came out of the locker room and continued to claw away at the lead, scoring the first six points to get within two. With Neumann down by three points, with 16:30 left, another six point run gave them their first lead since the opening basket of the contest. It didn't take long for the Pacers to respond, scoring seven of the next nine points. The Knights retook the lead for good with 12:14 left after scoring six straight. With two minutes left, Marywood pulled within two after Neumann extended the lead to eight, but they would come no closer.
Jalen Vaughns picked up his sixth double-double of the season as he led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Bernard Lightsey was a catalyst off of the bench contributing 15 points. Keel also had a double-double with a 14 point, 12 board performance, adding three assists and three steals.
Neumann (6-12, 4-1 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Wednesday, January 24 when they head south to take on Marymount University in another Atlantic East Conference game. The opening tip is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
