WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team opened the 2024 season with a split at King's College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Knights opened the afternoon with a 3-0 win over Lehman College before falling to host King's 3-0.
JP Perdomo tallied 12 kills in his Knights debut.
Trey Edmonds added 11 kills.
Dan Barckholtz handed out 36 assists.
Brandon Baskerville notched 15 digs against Lehman.
In a back-and-forth first set, a service ace by
Isaiah Raye-Ryan gave Neumann the 25-21 win. Leading 17-12 in set two, the Knights scored seven straight points, including two service aces by
Christian Johnson, for a 24-12 advantage. A Perdomo kill gave Neumann the 25-13 set two win.
Set three went back and forth as well. Leading 23-22, back-to-back kills by
Veryl Burns and Edmonds gave the Knights the 25-22 set and 3-0 match win.
Against King's,
Victor John tallied six kills. Burns, Perdomo and Edmond each added five. Barckholtz dished out 24 assists. Baskerville had nine digs.
The Knights battled to start the first two sets, but the Monarchs pulled away for the 25-18 and 25-16 wins. King's opened the third set 11-2 to come away with the 25-13set and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (1-1) will open up at home on Wednesday when it hosts Eastern beginning at 7:00 PM.
