ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team battled with Eastern University on Wednesday evening in its season home opener, falling 3-1.
Trey Edmonds led the Knights with 16 kills and 10 digs.
Victor John tallied seven kills and
Isaiah Raye-Ryan added six.
Dan Barckholtz handed out 33 assists.
Brandon Baskerville notched 11 digs.
The Knights came out on fire the start the match and held and early 7-1 lead in the first set. Leading 18-7, Neumann was able to score the next eight points behind the serving of Barckholtz to take the first set 25-8.
The Eagles held the pace in the second set, jumping out to an early 11-4 lead and tied the match at one with a 25-16 win.
Set three went back and forth and the teams were tied at 19. The Eagles scored the next three points. The teams then traded a couple points when Eastern tallied two straight service aces for the 25-21 win.
The fourth score started back and forth. Eastern took a score knotted at nine and scored six straight points. After trading points, the Eagles scored six of the final eight points for a 25-15 set four win and 3-1 match win.
Neumann (1-2) will travel to Hood College next Saturday for a tri-match with Elizabethtown. Action gets underway for the Knights at 12:00 PM.
