FREDERICK, Md. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team traveled to Hood College for a tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell to Elizabethtown College 3-2 before defeating the host Blazers 3-0.
Trey Edmonds tallied 13 kills in the win over the Blue Jays.
Victor John added 12 kills and a .348 hitting percentage.
Dan Barckholtz handed out 42 assists.
Veryl Burns notched four service aces.
Brandon Baskerville had eight digs.
Leading 8-7, Elizabethtown scored eight of the next nine points to jump out to a 16-8 lead and finished out the first set with a 25-17 win. The second set went back and forth. Tied at 20, the Knights scored the next three points. A Blue Jay service error put Neumann at set point 24-21. Elizabethtown tallied two kills before another service error to give Neumann a 25-23 second set win.
The Blue Jays took a 17-11 lead in the third set. The Knights started to chip their way into the deficit and scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 20-19 edge. Tied at 26, kills by Burns and
JP Perdomo gave the Knights a 28-26 set three win.
The Blue Jays led 12-5 early in the fourth set. Again, the Knights chipped their way back and pulled within three, 23-20, but could not get any closer and Elizabethtown forced a fifth set with a 25-20 win. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the fifth and deciding set and won 15-5 for the 3-2 match win.
In a 3-0 win over Hood, Burns notched 10 kills, John tallied nine and Edmonds eight. Barckholtz dished out 30 assists. Baskerville finished with eight assists.
The Knights held the pace for most of the match.
Mason Fleisher tallied the set two match point with a kill. Set scores were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-13.
Neumann (2-3) heads to Valley Forge on Tuesday evening for action beginning at 7:00 PM.
