ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's hockey team battled with King's College (Pa.) on Friday evening in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest before falling 4-2.
After a scoreless first period, the Monarchs tallied a shorthanded goal midway through the second. King's added a goal with 1:55 left before the intermission for a 2-0 lead after two periods.
Just 38 seconds into the third period,
Kaila Booth answered with her own shorthanded goal to pull the Knights to within one, 2-1. Less than three minutes later, the Monarchs scored a power play goal for a 3-1 game.
Not to be outdone, the Knights scored their own power play goal as
Kyra Filighera shot the puck from inside the blue line.
Jamiyah Alexander and
Meg Landman tallied the assists. Neumann had a power play late in the game to try and tie the score, but King's was able to score an empty net goal to seal the win.
Ella Sciborski made 30 saves in net. Alexander led the Knights with six shots.
Lian Sydorowicz blocked three shots. The Knights did not allow a goal on a couple 5-on-3 penalty kills, holding the Monarchs to 1-for-9 on the power play.
Neumann (4-12-2, 0-11-2 UCHC) and King's will meet tomorrow afternoon in the second game of the weekend series. The opening faceoff is slated for 2:00 PM.
