ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's basketball team were handed a 87-73 loss against their cross-county rivals, Widener University, in a non-conference game on Wednesday night.
Neumann got the game rolling with a 5-2 run over the first 2:37 of the game. Widener fought back to pull even and both teams went back and forth over the first 10 minutes of the game. With 9:31 left in the first, the Pride went on a 17-0 run, including five three-pointers to grab a 42-27 lead with just over five minutes left. The Knights answered with an 11-7 stretch to close the period, but the deficit was 11 heading into the break.
Over the first five minutes of the second, Widener extended the lead thanks to a 12-6 run, giving them their largest lead of the game at 17. With 10:31 left, Neumann chipped away at the lead with an 8-1 run, getting them within eight. From there a 14-5 Pride push secured the game, despite a buzzer beating three by
DJ Earl.
Earl led the offense with 18 points.
Gary Francis and
Nigel Burch had 14 points each.
TJ Lewis wrestled down nine rebounds as
Jarell Keel had six.
Neumann (4-2) will be back in action on Saturday at 3:00 PM when they host Manhattanville University.
