ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team battled King's College to a 2-2 draw in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game on Friday, but dropped the shootout, 1-0 in five rounds.
Just 1:18 into the game, the Knights struck for the first goal of the game. After a face-off scramble,
Cecelia Mick touched the puck to
Kaylynn Savoy who spun a shot past the goalie for her second goal of the season. Five minutes later, Neumann went on a 5-on-3 power play and took full advantage of it.
Charlotte Labre set up in the slot and fired in her third goal of the season.
Gia Santorello and Savoy got the assists as the Knights took a 2-0 lead.
King's fought back in the second using the power play to full effect. Just past the halfway point of the period, the Monarchs cut the deficit in half. With 25 seconds left, they potted home another goal with the advantage to tie the game. The third period and overtime went scoreless, and the Monarchs were able to score the only goal in the shootout.
Kenna Sanders led the effort with four shots on goal. Labre had three shots and Savoy added to her two-point game with five total shots and two on goal.
Sydney Babin made 29 saves in goal.
Neumann (1-5-1, 0-4-1 MAC) and King's will complete this weekend's two-game set on Saturday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
