ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team tied King's College for the second straight day with a score of 2-2, but on Saturday afternoon, the Knights earned the shootout win, 1-0.
After a scoreless first period,
Gia Santorello laced a wrist shot from the point for her second goal of the season.
Kaylynn Savoy assisted on the power play marker with 13:22 left in the second for a 1-0 lead. At the 14:05 mark, Savoy stole the puck just outside of the blue line and streaked in on the goalie. She ripped a shot over the goalie's shoulder for an unassisted power play goal, doubling the Knights' lead.
King's started to claw back into the game early in the third period, as they grabbed an even strength goal 1:56 into the period. The Monarchs then tied the game with 10:57 left in regulation. With 3:20 left,
Jamiyah Alexander broke into the zone on a 3-on-1. Her wrist shot was saved but
Lian Sydorowicz knocked home the rebound to make it a 3-2 Neumann lead. With 1:45 left, King's thought they tied the game, but the puck was ruled to have been touched by a high stick. The Monarch did equalize on a goal mouth scramble with 10 seconds on the clock.
After a scoreless overtime in which King's had a power play. The game went into a shootout. In the second round, Santorello scored the only goal Neumann would need in the shootout.
Savoy and
Trish Dan led the Knights with five goals each. Sydorowicz had four shots while
Kenna Sanders and
Emma Tauken had three goals each.
Sydney Babin made 32 saves in goal.
Neumann (1-5-2, 0-4-2 MAC) will be back in action on Friday, December 6th, when they head to Reading to take on Alvernia University. Puck drop will be at 6:00 PM.
