MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team scored four power play goals on their way to a 6-4 win over Morrisville State in a non-conference game on Friday night.
Neumann got on the board when
Tyler Inlow deflected a
Cameron Hatziioannou slap shot for a power play goal, his third goal of the season.
Tyler Ray also assisted as the Knights took a 1-0 lead with 4:54 left in the first period. 1:12 later,
Tony Andrews got the puck in the slot after a Morrisville State giveaway to
Chase Cochran and wristed home his second of the year to double the Neumann advantage heading into the first intermission.
The Mustangs got on the board thanks to a 2-on-1, cutting the Neumann lead to one with 16:27 left in the second. With nine minutes left in the period, Morrisville State was working the power play when
Luke Croucher grabbed a loose puck and moved in on a breakaway. He fired in his second goal of the season for a shorthanded marker and a 3-1 lead. The Mustangs responded with their own breakaway goal to pull back within one with 3:59 remaining in the second. At the 18:06 mark,
Matt Dimaline snuck in a wrist shot from the point after a
Lucas Culhane pass for his first collegiate goal, again giving the Knights a two-goal lead.
Neumann held that lead well into the third but with 12:57 left in regulation, Morrisville State scored on the power play to pull within one. Two minutes later, the Knights scored another power play goal as Ray scored his second of the season after a Hatziioannou blast left a big rebound. 30 seconds later, the Mustangs again got back within a goal, thanks to a 3-on-2 rush. With 7:43 left,
Zack Smith snapped in a point shot for his fourth of the year, another Knights power play goal.
Sonny DiNubile and
Max Donohoe had the assists.
Croucher, Ray, and Hatziioannou each had two-point games while Dimaline led in shots on goal with seven. He also won 11 of the 19 faceoffs he took.
PJ Demitrio won 10 of the 17 and Croucher won 13 of 19.
Logan Gorbitz picked up the win in goal, making 23 saves.
Neumann (5-0-2, 4-0-2 MAC) and Morrisville State will battle again on Saturday afternoon starting at 4:00 PM.
