ABINGTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team opened the 2024-25 campaign with an 88-74 win at Penn State Abington on Friday evening.
Five Knights hit double-digits, led by
DJ Earl with 21.
TJ Lewis and
Mike Smith, III each netted 12.
Gary Francis and
Nigel Burch both added 11. Burch led the team with seven rebounds.
Earl put the Knights on the board first and Neumann took off, building a 10-point lead, 16-6, six minutes into the game. The Knights continued to build their lead throughout the half and look a 47-34 advantage into the break.
The Nittany Lions began to chip their way into the deficit and with 13:06 left in the second half tied the game at 56. Neumann answered by scoring the next eight points. The teams went back and forth until the Knights went back up by double-digits, 75-63, on a layup by Francis. Neumann did not let Penn State Abington chip away at the lead again and came away with the 88-74 win.
Neumann (1-0) heads to Goucher College on Tuesday evening for action beginning at 7:00 PM.
