ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team will look to win their second consecutive Atlantic East Conference championship on Saturday afternoon as they visit Marymount University in the final.
Neumann has an overall record of 9-6-4 and had a conference record of 5-1, putting them as the No. 2 seed. Marymount is the top seed in the tournament with a record of 5-0-1, and an overall record of 11-4-5.
After both teams received first round byes, both battled their way through the semifinals on Wednesday. Neumann came away with a 1-0 win over No. 3 Immaculata, thanks to a 31
st minute goal by
Jake Kuzmick, and
Jackson Laznik's five save effort in goal. The Saints advanced on a 2-0 win over No. 4 Marywood.
Kuzmick is the Knights' top scorer with eight goals on the year.
Alex Duopu followed with seven, and
Zion Atta-Krah had four.
Nick LoBiondo was the team's most successful passer with four assists on the season. Laznik is having an impressive rookie campaign with a 0.98 goals against average and a .806 save percentage. His four shutouts is tied for the most in the conference.
The only meeting of the season came in the regular season finale and on the strength of a 12
th minute goal, the Saints came away with the 1-0 decision. Laznik made three saves in a game that the Knights outshot Marymount by a 15-7 margin. Neumann also led in corner kicks, 12-2.
The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Virginia. The winner will be crowned the Atlantic East Conference champion and will receive and automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championship tournament.
