HERSHEY, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team picked up a point in the MAC standings with a 2-2 tie but lost the shootout against Lebanon Valley College on Saturday night.
Lebanon Valley got on the board with 7:23 left in the first on a shot from the right-side point for a power play goal. Neumann responded with their own power play goal in the late stages of the first.
Cameron Hatziioannou took a feathered pass from
Tyler Ray and blasted home a slapper with just 23 seconds left, tying the game at one.
At the 8:29 mark of the second, the Flying Dutchmen retook the lead on a deflection goal. With 3:21 left in the period,
Matt Dimaline broke into the offensive zone on a 3-on-2. He slipped a pass across to
Zack Smith who tied the game at two with a wrist shot. The third period and overtime went scoreless and the game went into the NCAA books as a 2-2 tie.
A big point in the MAC standings was still up for grabs in the shootout. The shootout went into the fourth round before it was finished off by a Flying Dutchmen goal, giving them the 1-0 win and a second point in the standings.
Smith led the Knights with nine shots on goal.
Sonny DiNubile had five shots and
Dustin Patterson had four.
Cole DeFazio made 25 saves in goal.
Neumann (1-0-1, 1-0-1 MAC) will be back in action on Friday night for their 2024-25 home opener as they host Arcadia University. Puck drop from the IceWorks Skating Complex is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
