ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University men's soccer team claimed the 2024 Atlantic East Championship, defeating Marymount University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. It is the second straight conference championship for the Knights.
Jackson Laznik was named the MVP. The Neumann keeper made four saves in net for the win.
Landon Moroney received the Elite 20 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's 20 team championships.
The Knights got on the board just 3:01 into the game on a set piece. After a Saints foul was called,
Luke Mejia served the ball towards the net where
Zion Atta-Krah put the ball in the back of the net.
Jake Kuzmick also drew and assist on the first goal of the game.
In the 16
th minute,
Alex Duopu served the ball towards the net where it found Kuzmick. The senior collected the ball and put it past the keeper for a 2-0 Neumann lead. The Knights held the 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Saints cut the lead in half with a goal in the 78
th minute on a free kick. The Knights took back the two-goal advantage in the 82
nd minute as Mejia crossed ball in from the corner. The ball was misplayed by the Marymount keeper and ended up in the net.
Neumann (10-6-4) will find out who it will face in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Monday during the selections show.
