Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men’s Hockey Falls in Tight Battle

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team suffered their first regulation loss of the season as they were dealt a 3-2 loss against Alvernia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

Alvernia got the lone goal in an intensely fought first period, scoring on the power play with 11:59 to go. 12:42 into the second, Sonny DiNubile forced a turnover that ended up on the stick of Zack Smith. He found Matt Dimaline alone in front of the goal and Dimaline tied the game with his second goal of the season. With 4:31 left in the period, Alvernia responded with a power play goal to take a 2-1 lead into the third.

The Knights tried to get back into the game throughout the final period, but it was the Golden Wolves who scored with 8:35 left to double their lead. Neumann, in the late stages of regulation, pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. With 1:23 left, Judd Katz powered a slap shot in for his second goal of the season. Luke Croucher and Dimaline assisted but Neumann did not find the tying goal in time.

Katz led the Knights with six shots on goal. Croucher, Dimaline, and Dustin Patterson each added five shots each. Cole DeFazio made 27 saves in goal.

Neumann (7-1-2, 5-1-2 MAC) will try to start another win streak on Friday, January 3rd when they go to New York for the Oswego Tournament. They'll take on host Oswego State starting at 7:00 PM
